Visualizing a National Scorecard for Social Safety Nets

Code for America underwent an extensive research project geared at understanding how social safety net programs deliver services effectively to the people who need them.  They unveiled some of the inadequacies of the current means of assessing their impact, and envisioned what a National Scorecard for taking the right measurements might look like.  I worked with CfA researchers to help visualize the narrative of the social safety net delivery landscape as it currently is measured, and illustrate what a National Scorecard could mean in terms of how we should be measuring these services.

Approach

  • Collaborated closely with CfA research team to create a narrative visualization representing the complex landscape of social safety net delivery, highlighting current measurement methods and their inadequacies.

  • Cerated conceptual designs Illustrating a compelling vision for a National Scorecard, showcasing how improved measurements can enhance the effectiveness of social safety net programs.

  • Utilized data-driven design techniques to communicate the impact and potential of the National Scorecard concept effectively.

  • Designed an experience that simplifies complex ideas and make them accessible to a wide audience.

  • Worked with front-end development to incorporate new patterns and components into a nascent design system.
